How to Add AVAX (Avalanche) to MetaMask

how to add avalanche blockchain to metamask wallet

Through its use of subnets, the Avalanche blockchain can process 4,500 transactions per second compared to Ethereum’s 30 transactions per second. As such, gas fees on Avalanche are typically much cheaper. Whether you want to use DeFi platforms, buy NFTs or swap coins, using the Avalanche network can be a great alternative.

Here’s how to add the Avalanche network to your MetaMask wallet.

1. Login to MetaMask

Click the MetaMask extension on your browser and type in your password to login.

2. Add a New Network

Click the Ethereum Mainnet dropdown button, then click “Add Network.”

3. Enter the Avalanche Network details

A new window should open up for MetaMask’s settings. Here, you’ll want to enter the following Avalanche blockchain details.

4. Send AVAX to MetaMask

AVAX is the Avalanche Network’s native token. You’ll need it to pay for fees whenever you use the network, just like how ETH is required to use the Ethereum blockchain.

To send yourself AVAX, copy your MetaMask’s wallet address. Then, send AVAX to that address from wherever you have some tokens, whether it be on an exchange like Binance or from the Avalanche official wallet.

Be sure to select the C-Chain, which is the default smart contract blockchain that is also Ethereum-compatible.

If you’re still confused, here’s a video tutorial from the official Avalanche team on connecting Avalanche to MetaMask.

The Avalanche blockchain is a Layer 1 blockchain and Ethereum competitor boasting faster transaction speeds and lower fees.

To get started, you’ll need to add the Avalanche network to your MetaMask wallet which we’ve covered in this article. Then you’ll want to ensure you have some AVAX tokens in order to pay for transactions. Fees are generally under $1.

If you need to buy AVAX, you can do so on Binance, Voyager or DeFi platform like Uniswap or SushiSwap.
