How to Fix OpenSea Error 1020

opensea error 1020

When visiting OpenSea, you may encounter Error 1020: Access Denied. OpenSea uses Cloudflare DNS protection, which prevents DDoS attacks and also acts as a firewall.

The reason you’re seeing this error is likely because you’re trying to access OpenSea from a restricted country. In their Terms of Service, OpenSea says the following: You agree that you will abide by these Terms and will not: Use the Service from a country sanctioned by the government of the United States

The list of countries sanctioned by the US government include, but is not limited to:

  • Belarus
  • Cuba
  • Iraq
  • Iran
  • Lebanon
  • Libya
  • North Korea
  • Syria
  • Venezuela
  • Yemen
  • Zimbabwe

If you’re from one of these countries, you may be blocked from accessing OpenSea as a result.

However, you may still encounter Error 1020 even if you live in an allowed country. I personally faced the error from the US for a brief time. The reason was because I had clicked on too many OpenSea links and had too many OpenSea tabs open at the same time.

The firewall must have thought I was a bot and temporarily restricted me to prevent a DDoS attack. After waiting half an hour or so and trying with a different browser, my access was whitelisted again.

Here are some solutions to try if you’re facing Error 1020.

Ways to Fix Error 1020

1. Try a Different Browser

Sometimes the simplest solution is to try accessing OpenSea from a new browser. Try Chrome, Firefox, Microsoft Edge, Opera, or Brave if your usual one doesn’t work. Using a different browser essentially clears your cache.

2. Clear your browser cache and cookies

Sometimes your browser stores outdated cookies on it. Try clearing your cache and cookies. In Chrome, you can do this by clicking Ctrl + Shift + Delete or by clicking the three dots on the top right corner, clicking More tools, then Clear browsing data.

3. Use a VPN

If all else fails, you may have to use a VPN service like ExpressVPN or NordVPN. Doing so will allow you to change your IP address and access OpenSea from a new location. This may be your only option if you’re from a restricted country.

OpenSea is a new platform with common errors, so don’t be discouraged if you encounter them. Try one of the methods above to fix Error 1020. If all else fails, you may have to contact OpenSea support at contact@opensea.io.
