In crypto there’s a saying: “Not your keys, not your wallet.” Many people prefer to buy crypto through an exchange like Coinbase or Voyager and then transfer it to their personal wallet.
If you bought ETH on Coinbase and are now looking to transfer it to your personal MetaMask wallet, here’s how to do so.
Transfer ETH from Coinbase to MetaMask
- Login to MetaMask
- Copy your MetaMask ETH address
- Login to Coinbase, click Send / Receive at the top right
- On the Send tab, select ETH and paste your MetaMask ETH address
- Confirm the transaction
- Wait for the Funds to Show in MetaMask
1. Login to MetaMask
Download MetaMask if you don’t have it. Create an account (make sure to save your seed phrase somewhere safe) and login.
2. Copy your MetaMask ETH address
3. Login to Coinbase, click Send / Receive at the top right
After you login to Coinbase, click the Send/Receive button at the top right beside your profile icon.
4. On the Send tab, select ETH and paste your MetaMask ETH address
On the Send tab, beside “Pay with” choose Ethereum.
Paste the MetaMask wallet address you copied earlier.
5. Confirm the transaction
Confirm the transaction after checking the wallet address looks correct.
Make sure you only send ETH or an ERC-20 compatible token to this address. If you send Bitcoin to an Ethereum address you will NOT receive the funds.
Before sending large transactions, sometimes it can be useful to send a small test transaction to confirm everything works properly.
6. Wait for the Funds to Show in MetaMask
After you execute the transaction, it’ll take a few minutes for the blockchain to confirm the transaction.
The ETH should show up in your MetaMask within 5-10 minutes.
This is the step by step process for sending ETH from Coinbase to MetaMask.
As long as you copy/paste the correct Ethereum address you have nothing to worry about. If funds don’t show up right away, don’t worry – it can take a few minutes.
